Dear UN Social 500 Players,
In September, Melissa Fleming, the Head of Communications and Chief Spokesperson for the United High Commissioner for Refugees, and Kent Page, Senior Advisor, Strategic Communications at UNICEF HQ successfully defended their #1 and #2 titles on the leaderboard. Sergio Fernandez De Cordova, SDG-Fund at the United Nations, SDG Media Zone, Pvblic Foundation shook up the leaderboard and climbed to the #3 position. Congrats!
We also saw some impressive climbs from Maina Kiai Special Rapporteur (up 627 places to 25th); Heli Nykänen, UNV Programme Coordinator at United Nations (up 610 places to 42nd); and Lorey Campese, Head of Digital for the UK Mission in New York (up 594 places to 58th). Nice work, all of you!
Please join me in welcoming new players Dan Thomas, the Spokesperson for the President of the 71st General Assembly (104th position) and now with UNICEF, and Aida Oliver, the Regional Sub-Director of UNICEF (397th position) to the UN Social 500 board. We look forward to watching you rise, Dan and Aida!
Adam Rogers, Senior Communications Advisor for Public and Private Sector Engagement for the United Nations Development Program, joined the UN Social 500 recently and has already reached a top 20 ranking! Emily Robinson tracked him down for a #ShareTheSuccess interview. Thank you, Adam and Emily.
We asked Roxanna Samii, Chief Digital Strategy at UN Environment for her thoughts on using lesser-known social media channels like Quora. You can see her article here. Thanks, Roxanna.
In September, there was an all-time high of social media impressions from this small group of Players–great work! This newsletter's open rate of 70% continues at much higher than the industry average. I encourage you to use this Leaderboard as an easy tool to connect with and support the work of each other.
We kicked off our first Leadership Council meeting last week. Thank you to Leadership Council members who volunteered their time to give us much-appreciated insight on how we can better serve you!
Have an amazing October!
